- Ryder honored as an MVE for the second year in a row -
Ryder
System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a leader in commercial transportation and
supply chain management solutions, has been named a winner of the 2014
Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military recognition for the second
year in a row. Marking the sixth year of its publication in 2014, the
MVE recognition serves to help military-experienced job seekers and
veterans identify the top employers to target for civilian careers. MVEs
are selected annually from U.S.-based employers like Ryder, whose
recruiting, training, and retention plans best serve military service
members and veterans.
“There are two groups of winners today. First are the employers who are
being recognized as MVEs,” said Sandra (Sandy) Morris, CEO,
Bradley-Morris, Inc., parent company of CivilianJobs.com. “They are
winning by hiring high-value military-experienced employees who are
helping move their respective businesses forward. But military job
seekers are also winners. CivilianJobs.com acknowledged a record number
of companies as MVEs this year and I am so excited to see the pool of
career opportunities expand for veterans.”
As a leader in transportation and logistics, Ryder understands the
unique work experiences of military personnel and values their inherent
leadership qualities. Veterans not only possess distinct logistical,
mechanical, and management skills learned through military service, but
also intangible qualities, such as strong work ethic, mission focus, and
teamwork that add value to the organization.
Ryder joined Hiring
Our Heroes in November 2011, a program of the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce, launched as a nationwide initiative to help veterans,
transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful
employment opportunities. From November 2011 to March 31, 2014, Ryder
has hired a total of 1,853 veterans, including drivers, technicians,
warehouse workers, and salaried employees, increasing the Company’s U.S.
employee veteran population from 8 percent to 10 percent. Ryder also
participates on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Veterans Employment
Advisory Council, an initiative focused on enhancing collaboration
between the public and private sectors to improve career opportunities
for veterans.
“It is a great honor to again be named among the Most Valuable Employers
for Military,” said Greg Greene, Executive Vice President & Chief
Administrative Officer, Ryder. “Ryder is committed to providing veterans
with as many employment opportunities as possible and promoting
awareness that they are truly some of the most qualified and skilled
individuals to work in the transportation and logistics industry.”
The 2014 Most Valuable Employers (MVE) for Military was open to all
U.S.-based companies. The winners were selected based on surveys in
which employers outlined their recruiting, training and retention plans
that best serve military service members and veterans. In addition to
being recognized in the May issue of Military Transition News,
CivilianJobs.com’s worldwide military base newspaper, winning employers
will also be displayed on the CivilianJobs.com website at http://www.CivilianJobs.com/MVE.htm.
